Quilt Squares

Yesterday had the students choose a square to create. Had them color in using the colors they wanted. Tried to get them to use contrasting colors. Today hope to begin the process of cutting out the pieces to piece together on paper, then during the week will have them research what their square is supposed to signify. They will write a brief description in their words of it's meaning. Continuing to read Harriet Tubman and Sweet Clara for reference information. Abstract thinking is hard for them and still not sure whether they understand the controversy of the meaning of the quilts. They are remembering factual information we have read so far about the underground railroad. Making a top down web to how the relationship between plantation and everyone associated with it.
