Colonial Tools

Yesterday in class we once again continued our virtual tour of the Sowing the Seeds of Liberty exhibit at the Museum of our National Heritage in Lexington, MA. Focused on the tools that Captain Parker head of the Lexington Training Band may have used in his occupation as wheelwright and woodworker.I brought out an object for the students to see. They passed it around and I asked them to take a guess as to what it's purpose was. Some thought a cheese grater/slicer or something to take the skin of of fruits or vegetables since there was a blade on the bottom. Great guesses based on what they observed. it was actually a plane similar to the one in the exhibit. After we viewed to tools on the screen and compared it to the one in class. Tomorrow we will try to see if it actually works. Also want to trace the British Route a the marched into Lexington on Google Earth using the projector.Three Antique Wooden Block Planes with Irons:
