Colonial Music

Today in class we did a worksheet about the 5 W's based on what we have learned from reading Sam the Minuteman so far. Worksheet is from Discovery Education website. There are some other good templates for writing skills that can be used for both factual and creative writing. After the students completed the worksheet, I played some colonial music from a site through Colonial Williamsburg about  Tavern Music. The students took guesses as to what types of instruments were used in each piece of music. There was some fife and drum music.
We talked about how that may have been played while the British troops were marching along the road toward Lexington. The author of our story talks about the red river flowing along the road as the soldiers approach the village green. We talked about how the music may have been an accompaniment for them as they marched.
