Underground Railroad
Have begun reading the story about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. Read Chapter One and defined vocab for the chapter. Will begin comprehension questions on Monday. Did a brief acting out in class with students to get an idea of what it would be like to be a slave and be bought by an owner which was the vocabulary word we were defining as a class. Most of kids enjoyed it and it helped them to identify an appropriate definition for how the word is used in our text.Going to use a lesson on Freedom Quilts and the meanings of the different quilt squares for our project from math wire.com Ties to math patterning, language arts and social studies map reading.
